Recommendations for patients

Collection for ECBU (Bottle WITH preservative powder)

  • Collection is preferably done with the first urination in the morning or else at least 4 hours after urinating, if possible, depending on the clinic.
  • Open the bottle by unscrewing the cap without touching the edges of the bottle,
  • Wash your hands thoroughly,
  • Thoroughly clean the vulva or the head of the penis, then wipe to remove all traces of soap or antiseptic,
  • Release the first jet in the toilet,
  • Then urinate in the sterile vial provided by the laboratory between the markings and without tossing the powder, close it carefully,
  • Mark the bottle with your first and last name, note the date and time of collection,
  • Place it in the plastic bag and close tightly,
  • Complete the associated request form by answering the questions asked, which is useful for correct interpretation of your results,
  • The bottle can be stored for 24 hours between 15 and 25 ℃..

Special case of ECBU collection for infants :

  • Collection in the laboratory or at home; in case of collection at home, obtain a collection bag at a pharmacy,
  • apply the collection bag after thoroughly washing and carefully drying,
  • • The bag may not be worn for more than a maximum of 30 minutes. If necessary, change the bag,
  • The bag must be sent to the laboratory as soon as possible or else may be placed in the refrigerator for a maximum of 12 hours.

Collection for chemical analyses on samples (albumin, sugar, etc…)

  • Obtain a bottle WITHOUT powder at the laboratory or at a pharmacy,
  • collect the urine directly in the bottle, preferably in the morning,
  • Mark the bottle with your first and last name, note the date and time of collection,
  • complete the associated request form,
  • bring the bottle to the laboratory as soon as possible.

Urine collection for CHLAMYDIA (Bottle WITHOUT powder)

  • Collection is preferably done with the first urination in the morning or else at least 2 hours after urinating,
  • open the bottle by unscrewing the cap without touching the edges of the bottle,
  • wash your hands thoroughly,
  • thoroughly clean the vulva or the head of the penis, then wipe to remove all traces of soap or antiseptic,
  • then urinate the 1st jet in the sterile bottle provided by the laboratory and close it carefully,
  • Mark the bottle with your last and first name, note the date and time of collection,
  • place it in the plastic bag and close tightly,
  • the bottle must be sent to the laboratory as soon as possible.

Collection of an HLM (ADDIS ACCOUNT)

  • Obtain a bottle at the laboratory or at a pharmacy,
  • 3 hours before getting up normally, urinate by emptying the entire bladder in the toilet,
  • drink a large glass of water (250 ml),
  • mark the bottle with your last and first name, note the date and time on the bottle supplied by the laboratory,
  • go back to bed and remain lying down at rest for 3 hours,
  • 3 hours later (as exactly as possible):
    • urinate in the bottle provided by the laboratory to collect all the urine ,
  • the bottle must be sent to the laboratory as soon as possible.

Collection of Urine of 24 hours (U24H)

  • Obtain a bottle at the laboratory or at a pharmacy.
  • On getting up: Urinate by fully emptying the bladder into the toilet.
  • Note your last and first name on the bottle, as well as the date and time at the start of collection..
  • for 24 hours, day and night :
    • collect all urine in the bottle,
    • Do not lose urine when having a bowel movement,
  • after 24 hours :
    • At the noted time, urinate by emptying the entire bladder into the bottle,
  • bring the bottle to the laboratory as soon as possible (maximum 2 hours after the end of collection).
  • Avoid any deep vaginal cleaning or washing or local treatments (cream, gel, soap, suppository, etc.) as well as sexual intercourse within 24 hours before the exam.
  • it is advisable to avoid taking the specimen during the menstrual period because the flora is modified (unless otherwise advised by the prescriber or in case of emergency),
  • the specimen must be taken before or well after any antibiotic treatment (> 15 days for chlamydiae,> 5 days for ordinary germs).

This examination should be done, if possible, during episodes of diarrhoea.

  • It is advisable to do this examination outside of any treatment, with a diet without residue the day before the collection.
  • Collect the stool in the sterile vial provided by the laboratory.
  • Mark the bottle with your last and first names.
  • Note the date and time of collection,
  • the bottle must be sent to the laboratory as soon as possible.

Dermatophytes are fungi for which the culture is delicate, cultivation can take three to four weeks. Any treatment or product applied can prevent the cultivation of Dermatophytes.

All oral and local treatment should be stopped for :

  • for skin samples: 8 days MINIMUM
  • 2 weeks minimum for skin samples,
  • for nail samples, 1 month (if polish of type Mycoster, Amycor type Onychoset, Loceryl®,) and 3 months (if Lamisil®)
  • for hair samples : 1 month (if Griseofulvine) and 3 months (if Lamisil®)
  • the nails must not be covered with polish,
  • regardless of the location of the sample, do not apply any cream or talc,
  • regardless of the location of the sample, do not wash on the day of the examination,
  • to check for ringworm on the scalp, do not wash your head.

  • The test is performed in the pre-ovulatory period,
  • after sexual abstinence for 3 to 5 days,
  • 6 to 12 hours after intercourse,
  • do not use vaginal lubricant and do not wash the vagina deeply after intercourse..
